What Causes Foul Smelling Brown Vaginal Discharge?
Question: My daughter aged 35 has 2 children, got married last Friday and has a brown smelly discharge since Saturday last after having intercourse with approx. a six month gap, what could this be?
Brief Answer:
VAGINAL INFECTION LIKELY
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
It could be a vaginal infection, particularly as the discharge has a foul odour.
It is less likely to be abrasion due to sex, as there would be no odour in that case.
Also, very rarely, a vaginal / cervical polyp can bleed this way.
A cervical lesion, erosion or a growth also presents like this.
She should consult a gynecologist, and have a formal internal exam - per vaginum and per speculum.
ALso a vaginal swab should be taken to pinpoint the exact infection.
A pelvic transvaginal scan too should be done.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.

thank you, they are on honeymoon now , can it wait until they return next week or should she seek help immediately.
Brief Answer:
AS BELOW
Detailed Answer:
It can wait for a week if it does not bother her unduly.
Ask her to use protection until then, so as to avoid flaring up a possible infection.
Thank you for the appreciation.
