What Causes High WBC Count In Blood?

Question: Hi,
I am very worried about my high white blood cell count where all the tests in my blood came back normal except for my white cell test. It came back as 12.5 which is more than double my last test 6 months ago. I have been stressed and smoking far too many cigs. I have a rash that comes up in small areas when I sweat like little red dots. Then go away soon after. I was absolutely freaking out after google had convinced me that I have leukaemia.. Then I read into the test more. My test results say neutrophilia present. And all other aspects of my wbc are fine. What could be causing this high wbc? Could it be life threatening and should I put off my trip abroad?

Brief Answer:
Infection is the most common cause.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have slightly high wbc count with neutrophilia. I wouldn't be worried about leukemia. The chances are remote. Your high wbc count may be due to some infection, stress or other cause.
If you have fever or other symptoms then you should go for CRP to check for infection. Otherwise nothing to worry. Just be relaxed.
You can continue your abroad trip. Nothing serious.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
