What Causes Limb Length Discrepancy And Walking Difficulty After Internal Fixation Of Fractures?

Question: Hi Doctor.
I had a femur neck fracture 2 and a half months back. Surgery was done, and it was fixed through screw-plate arrangement. I am able to walk now, but seem to have a leg length discrepancy and have trouble making correct gait.

Brief Answer:
Needs latest Xray and measurement of length discrepancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Usually after internal fixation of fractures there could be limb length discrepancy and difficulty in walking as a result.

It is best to get evaluated about the amount of shortening, any fixation problems like fracture collapse.

Treatment options include shoe raise to correct the discrepancy, reopening the fracture and fixing again with implants and graft, if any complications of surgery.

This requires latest Xray of the fracture site and measurement of the length discrepancy.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
