default
Posted on Sat, 2 Apr 2016
Question: My voice is not clear when I speak. upon analysing a recorded speech of mine , I realized that my voice feels like its coming out of my nose rather than mouth. how can I push the voice over mouth than nose though I do it unknowingly.
I do not have any disabilities wrt ent.
I am planning to do a clip to my teeth, so that a rearrange of my little messed up front teeth should give me a better outcome.
Please sujjest me what can I do to improve my voice throughput

Brief Answer:
ENT check-up, FNPL, Speech Therapy, sometimes surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This is known as Rhinolalia Aperta or Hypernasal Speech. An initial examination by an ENT Specialist should include oral examinatio to rule out any disorders of soft palate movement and a submucous cleft in the hard palate. A flexible naspharyngolayngoscopy (FNPL) will reveal any velopharyngeal insufficiency (where there is an air leak into the nose from the throat while speaking).

2. Speech therapy by an audiologist and speech language pathologist will be the able to give you speech therapy sessions to help improve the quality of your voice.

3. In some cases surgical procedures can be done to improve the pharyngeal sphincter function.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
