What Causes Nose Bleeding When Diagnosed With Hypertension?

I have never had a bloody nose in my life. Other than having some dry blood in my mucous during a cold, or dry room from high heat in the winter, which is rare.
This morning when I woke up I felt a bit congested, and when I went to wash my face / brush my teeth, blood started coming out of my nose into the sink. It took 40 mins for this to stop. I have not had any trauma to my nose or nostrils.
Again, this is my first ever nosebleed. I am a 40 year old female.
Thank you, XXXXXXX
Bleeding from the nose is probably due to high blood pressure.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Nosebleed most commonly occurs as a result of trauma to the mucous membrane of nasal cavities.
However, there are some other causes of nosebleed also.
As you have mentioned that you didn't have any trauma, and presently on Clonidine, I assume that you are suffering from high blood pressure (please let me know if you're taking it for any other concerns).
High blood pressure can also cause such bleeding from the nasal cavity.
I suggest you get your blood pressure checked at first.
Bleeding from the nose can be controlled by applying pressure (which you've rightly done at that time) or pressure gauge.
There is nothing much to worry but you need to consult your physician for monitoring of your blood pressure routinely.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks and take care

I suggest you get your blood pressure checked.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Thanks for informing that you are on Clonidine for anxiety.
Nevertheless, the blood pressure should be checked.
A single episode of nosebleed is not alarming but repeated episodes need medical attention.
Thanks and take care
