What Causes Nose Bleeding?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Feb 2015
Question: I have a little concern and just wanting some extra professional opionion.

End of November 2014 i was hacking little bit of blood it wasn't from my chest. It was mixed in with bright yellow mucus. I went to the ENT he then scoped my nose using a flexible scope. He also checked my nasopnasophayrnx and other structures in my mouth. He said just infection also dry air.

I went back a month later and my sinus cleared up but at random times I was still seeing little blood. He said it was dry air the SCOPE would have shown anything bad.

Now I only see very little amount of blood it is very minor and barely streaks tissue paper and it's bright red. Sometimes if I get a booger it might have little bit of blood on it but again it's very minor.

Do you think this is something more than dry air? I don't smoke I'm healthy 33 male. I'm not showing signs of sinus issues or XXXXXXX nosebleeds.

Brief Answer:
sinusitis-needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having repeated episodes of bleeding per nose.

As per your clinical details, it occurs to be due to sinusitis (blood tinged mucus) or due to deranged bleeding parameters.

XXXXXXX bleeding also seen with removing dried crust (hot climate) and fluctuation of BP.

I suggest you to do CT scan of para nasal sinuses (sinusitis, bleeding polyp- can not be seen through endoscope)), BP monitoring, blood tests- complete blood picture, hemoglobin percentage, coagulation profile.

Meant time, continue steam inhalation, stop removing dried crusts, simple saline nasal drops drops/3times to prevent drying crusts.

Repeated bleeding episodes can be managed with cauterization.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.

I do not see XXXXXXX blood it is just a small streak here and there.

My blood work and blood pressure have been great as well.

I guess I'm more concerned of some sinus cancer.

Brief Answer:
CT para nasal sinuses.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Routine blood work is different from coagulation profile investigations. Kindly discuss with your treating doctor for above investigations.

As such, at 33 years, cancer in nose and sinuses is uncommon. Your nasal endoscopy is normal.

In case of strong suspicion, needs be evaluated with CT para nasal sinuses ( your bleeding cause and sinus interiors can be evaluated).

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.

Thanks. When they state a symptom of nosebleed for a sinus cancer is that because a tumor has inflatrated the nasal cavity and is bleeding? Also is the blood more like a real nosebleed? In that case an endoscopy would see that.

Appreciate your time.

Brief Answer:
no sinus cancer.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Sinus cancer is always infiltrative lesion and erodes surrounding structures (into cheek, naso pharynx or brain) and presents with swelling, XXXXXXX bleeding, cranial nerve palsies and sinusitis features.

Yes. Endoscopy picks up the protruding lesions of sinuses into nose, but it can not visualize interior of sinuses (cyst, polyp). CT scan of para nasal sinuses will reveal both interiors and exteriors.

Do not worry. Based on your clinical details, you do not have cancer.

Take care.
