What Causes Pain In Bottom Of The Feet While On Metformin For Diabetes?
Diabetes Thyroid
Detailed Answer:
The pain in the bottom of your feet could be due to nerve problems associated with diabetes. It is referred to as 'Neuropathy'
This diagnosis requires a thorough in-person examination.
Moreover, before attributing the pain to diabetes, it is important to rule out other causes of neuropathy such as vitamin B12 deficiency.
When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically order the following blood tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:
CBC (Complete Blood Count, also known as Hemogram; includes Hemoglobin, WBC and Platelet counts)
Electrolytes (Sodium and Potassium in particular)
HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin = your 3 month glucose average)
Liver function tests (SGOT , SGPT, Albumin, Bilirubin, Alkaline Phosphatase)
Kidney function tests (BUN, Creatinine)
TSH
Free T4
Anti Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) antibodies
Anti Thyroglobulin antibodies
Vitamin B12 levels
25 hydroxy Vitamin D
None of these tests require any fasting and can be done at any time of the day
Thanks a lot for your response. Please find attached my Lab Report as of March 4, 2016. Also, as the PSA level was high the Doctor recommended an Ultrasound of my prostate.
The prostate measures 3.0x2.9x3.4 cm.
There is a large Hyperechoic structure in the prostate gland measuring 2.3x1.0x2.6 cm
The prevoid bladder measures 8.6x7.6x8.0 cm
The post void bladder measures 3.8x3.5x4.7 cm
