What Causes Period Bleeding Inspite Of Having Mirena?
Question: I was on Mirena from the age of 48 to 53. (I had the Mirena removed October 1st of 2013) In August of 2013, My OBGYN administered blood work to see where I was in menopause---Mirena was yet not removed. My results came back that I was in menopause. While on Mirena, I never had a period. Last week I began having symptoms that I was going to have a period. This past Sunday (April 6th) I woke up to a period. This matches my usual cycle that I would of had a period. I'm having cramps and a headache as well. Should I be concerned? Do hormones fluctuate? Could my blood work been accurate with Mirena still inserted?
Brief Answer:
ultrasound is required, probably not normal period
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, welcome to healthcaremagic.
In my opinion you need to get a pelvic ultrasound done because this can be a normal period or postmenopausal bleeding.
Chances of postmenopausal bleeding are higher because your hormones were in menopausal range in August 2013 (mirena though was still inside but it doesn't affect hormone levels)
In case your endometrial thickness is higher on ultrasound then you need to consult your gynecologist immediately.
I hope I have answered your questions but in case you have any other query I will be happy to help.
Wish you the best of health.
