What Causes Swollen Eyes After Sleeping In The Morning Everyday?
Allergies are the most likely cause
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. Puffiness or swelling around the eyes is due to inflammation and water retention. The causes for which are commonly
1) Eye Strain: Looking at a computer monitor or TV for long periods of time will cause the Orbicularis muscle to tense up and slowly break down, this causes inflammation that you would see in the morning the day after the long session.
2) Allergies: This is something I very strongly suspect, given that you symptoms have started since you moved. Some environmental allergen, may be dust, parthenium from an empty lot nearby, pollen, anything could be causing this reaction. My suggestion for my patients in my clinic in these situations is to take Tab Cetrizine 10mg once before bed after their dinner.
Cetrizine is an anthistamine drug which will decrease the inflammation in the eyelid. I strongly suggest that it be taken before bed because it can cause some drowsiness. If that were too work, i would continue the medication for the rest of the winter and taper it off come February or March when the allergy season passes.
3) And least likely in my estimation is an Infection. Normally such an infection would causes alot of pain and redness of the eye itself, which you have not mentioned. So we will belie this idea for now.
I suggest that you look into taking an antihistamine for at least a week and then see of that is helping you. If it is not, you will probably need to be seen by an Opthalmologist (Eye Doc).
I hope this helps,
Vinay
Sorry to bother you again.
Thyroid disorders are also a possibility.
Detailed Answer:
Hi there XXXXXXX ok, thanks for the follow-up. I'm still unconvinced it is NOT an allergy. Dust and cleanliness may have nothing to do with allergies. You can be allergic to a brand new pillow cover or blanket that you have purchased. They may be perfectly clean.. but something in the fabric it is made of can cause allergies. Theoretically, one can be allergic to just about ANYTHING. Even poorly cleaned air conditioning vents can carry allergens.
I would strongly suggest you look into taking the Cetrizine.
None the less, the other possibility is that of Hypothyroidism, that can also cause facial puffiness in women your age.
To rule that out, a Thyroid Function Blood Test would be needed. You can go on an empty stomach to the diagnostic center and get that done.
Let me know what you think,
Vin

Detailed Answer:
Hi there, Cetrizine is available without prescription in most parts of the world. Just make sure you take it at night before you sleep. Don't try and drive, or ride a bike or do anything with heavy machinery until you are sure that the medication does not make you drowsy.
Take it for a week and then lets see how the swelling is behaving.

Give your eyes rest
Detailed Answer:
Stay away from the TV screen and Computer screen. Give your eyes rest. That's the most important. The rest is allergies and prevention of infection. Try not to rub your eyes as that can spread infections.
