What Does My Glucose Level Indicate?

This is out of range
Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms.XXXX,
Thanks for writing to HCM. I am Dr Praveen and I will be answering your query today. Noted the contents of your question.
I see you are on replacements for hypothyroidism. You also have a history of a pitutary tumor and also are a pre-diabetic.
The fasting blood glucose you mentioned is still in the pre -diabetic range. Its definitely not normal as the normal fasting glucose levels are less than 5.5. Since you are a pre-diabetic you should aim for a glucose level in the non diabetic range. I would suggest you do a Hba1c and a 75 gm glucose tolerance test to assess if your values in those tests fall in the diabetic range.
I am sure you are aware that diet and exercise are proven methods to prevent the progression of pre diabetes to diabetes.
It would be good to check your 2 hr post meal sugar today. It will give us an idea. Kindly let me know the values.
Wishing you good health. Warm regards.
Dr Praveen

Thank you doctor.
This is abnormal
Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms.XXXX,
Good day. This result is abnormal too. It is in the pre diabetic range. You need to do a 2 hour 75 gm glucose tolerance test to confirm diabetes. That is a very sensitive test and generally patients with diabetes have their post meal glucose shoot up prior to fasting values. Would you please get back with the result.
Here is how the test is done. You need to fast overnight for 8 to 10 hours and then do a fasting blood sugar test after which 75 gm glucose in water (in some places as flavored juice) is given. A sample is collected again after 2 hours. Do not exert yourself in those 2 hours or eat anything else.
Please do a Hba1c along with the fasting values.
Kindly revert with reports.
Warm regards.
