What Does My Transvaginal Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?
Question: I had a transvaginal ultrasound due to some pelvic pain and it says
the uterus is anteverted and heterogeneous in schogenicity, the uterus measures 10.1x4.9x6.2 cm,
the endometrium measures 5mm thickness. there is trace fluid within the fundal endometrium
right ovary 2.0x1.5x1.6
left ovary 2.4x1.8x1.7 cm
there is no free fluid in the pelvis
impression;
mildly enlarged uterus wit heterogeneous echogenicity. otherwise unremarkable pelvic ultrasound.
What does this mean? Is this serious or mean cancer? Worried
I am 40 years old with 4 kids

Brief Answer:
fairly normal USG pelvis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
thanks for the query,
The ultrasound is fairly normal , with just enlarged uterus with heterogenous echogenicity which can be due to adenomyosis or even seen with chronic PID ( pelvic inflammatory disease) patients as well. The endometrial thickness is 5mm which is normal and excludes and endometrial hyperplasia or uterine cancer.
There is no adnexal mass and ovarian size is normal.
So , all you may need is a course of antibiotics for a possible PID infection and if you are asymptomatic then no apparent treatment is required, if you have no menstrual complaints like heavy menses or severe dysmenorrhoea ( pain during menses).
Regards
