What Does The Knee MRI Report Indicate?
- Subarticular and subchondral marrow oedema/ contusion in medial condyle
of femur, medial, lateral condyles and intercondylar eminence of tibia.
- Full thickness tear of anterior cruciate ligament at femoral attachment.
- Intrasubstance degeneration in posterior horn of medial meniscus. No
articular surface extension.
- Minimal knee joint effusion
Based on these observations my doctor has recommended to go for ACL reconstruction. Just want to get a second opinion. Is the surgery required in this case?
Surgery is necessary.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You have a full thickness tear of the anterior cruciate ligament. This will cause instability of the knee and it can not heal conservatively. You need to have a surgical repair of the torn ligament.
Rest of the changes of the knee joint are minor ones and can heal with rest and anti inflammatory medicines. Your orthopedician has recommended the best treatment for you.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
