5 Months Old Has Loose Motions. Recommended Medicine ?
Hello, my baby girl 5 months of age has been passing motions.. she passed 4 motions yesterday against a regular count of 1 or 2. Also today morning her motions were very loose. What medicine do you recommend. She is on cows milk, khichdi and nachni... all these have suited her well and we started them all in a phased manner.
Thanks for writing to health care magic. A baby should be exclusively breast fed till 6 months of age. Breast feeding is important as this contains the right things required for the baby in right proportions at the right time. It is ideal for brain growth. Breast milk prevents various infections like loose motions, respiratory infections, etc.
So give exclusive breast feeding for your baby till 6 months and continue to breast feed your baby till 2 years of age.
Monitor for signs of dehydration. They include 1. Decreased skin turgor 2. Increasing thirst. 3. Sunken eyes. 4. Irritability. 5. Drowsiness. 6. Decreasing passage of urine. Oral rehydration solution or any other solution containing salt and sugar should be given. Probiotics and Zinc prescribed by your doctor will be useful.
In case of further dehydration the your baby may requires Intravenous fluids.
