Hi Doctor,
What shall i do if Poliomyelitis vaccine given to my 9 moths baby as I.M injection by mistake, the nurse withdraw polio vaccine instead of Measles vaccine in syringe and injected to my baby as I.M injection. We found out this mistake after 24 hours and my baby was given antibodies, please tell me what are the expectations and if my baby in danger to get the disease.
hello dear thanks for your query at HCM i understand your concern regarding child there are two kinds of polio vaccine available one is oral polio and one is injectable type of polio oral polio (sabin) vaccine has red color so nurse would not have given that injection even by seeing the color of the vaccine. next is injectable polio (salk ) vaccine that can be given intramuscularly most probably nurse would have given this its inactivated polio vaccine no live virus available in the vaccine actually it quite safe and effective , very less side effects, no chances of infection. no need to worry if injectable polio vaccine is given , you can take measle vaccine no problem with that. regards
