Abnormal Bleeding, Painful Intercourse. Pap Smear Advised. What Kind Of Infection Will Be Detected In It?
I went for my first smear today which ive been asking for atleast four years as have abnormal bleeding painful intercourse, lower abdominal pain along with back pain. I had two periods this month about 2wks ago and yesterday had black discharge, today the nurse could not see cervix due to too much discharge she says, so could not do smear but took 3 swabs and booked me to see doctor and try next week, what sort off infection could they test for? Thanks
The presence of abnormal bleeding, painful intercourse, lower abdominal pain, back pain and black colored discharge can be due to a number of causes. It can be due to: 1. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) 2. Cervical intra-epithelial lesion
A cervical swab of the discharge will isolate the infective organism causing the infection. If an infective organism is isolated, treatment has to be taken for the infection. This should be followed by a PAP smear. PAP smear will sample the cervical cells. Any dysplasia (pre-malignant) or malignant condition of the cervix if present will be determined. Further management will depend on the results of the investigations.
