Any Suggestion For Rashes Around Neck, Ears, Vomiting Phlegm After Taking Augmentin?
My son was just diagnosed with strep throat and given augmentin. He is six years old, but since he has taken the medicine, he has broken out in a rash all around his neck and ears. He has also vomited quite a bit of phlem up where it is practically choking him so I'm not sure if the rash is due to the medicine or the vomiting. He doesn't vomit or get the rash until after he takes the medicine. Should I be concerned?
Dear Friend. Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern. Augmentin is a penicillin group of antibiotic and can cause allergic reaction. It is very common for people to have allergic reaction to this drug. The reaction might get strong enough to develop Steven Jhonson Syndrome. I would advice you to get him to a doctor ASAP , so that he can be given anti allergics and anti inflammatory steroids if required. Don't give him further dose of Augmentin , till he is under a medical care. This is my personal opinion based on details available here.
