Are Missed Period, nausea And Sore Breast Signs Of Pregnancy?

I am a 33 years old insulin-resistant and I am taking Metformin every day. My last period was 28/05/2011, by the end of june I started to feel strange, nauseous, light headed, sore breasts, etc. I decided to take a pregnancy test from the pharmacy and it came out positive. After a few days I felt the same so I took another test and it too came positive. I started to become very excited about the news, when one morning I started to bleed (beginning was red blood with a black clot and then brown blood) this lasted for one day, the next day only a brown thing only when I wiped. I went to the doctor and sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound in which the doctor that took it said that there was nothing to detect. My question is, whats happening, I am pregnant or is it on my mind. Please help.

Hello ma'am

Your concerns are quite valid.

There is a term known as biochemical pregnancy and it is a condition where pregnancy test is positive (due to presence of beta Hcg - hormone that is secreted in early pregnancy) but small and rudimentary/ no gestational sac is formed in the uterus.

Another reason can be that you had a delayed pregnancy (not uncommon in patients with insulin resistance) which unfortunately got aborted completely in the bleeding you got and so you couldn't see anything on the ultrasound.

Don't worry you can try again. As you plan your pregnancy-
-Make sure you continue your metformin and your sugar levels are well under control.
-Start and continue folic acid supplementation.
-Get TSH reporting done.

These steps will help you conceive and will be beneficial for the baby too.

Hope this has helped.
Take care
