Are Severe Pain, Sensitivity To Light And Ear Discharge Symptoms Of Concussion?
Hi, my girlfriend got a concussion on Sunday and she is still experiencing severe pain, sensitivity to light, occasional drainage from the ears , and now heavy and painful pressure in her sinuses. Should she go back to the emergency room or are these normal symptoms?

Emergency Medicine Specialist, Dr. Tim Evans's Response
Hi. What do you mean when you say a concussion? Did she lose consciousness or black out? Has she been vomiting or experiencing double vision? The concerning things you describe are persistent headaches, photosensitivity (sensitivity to light) and drainage from the ears - this could be otorrhoea. I advise she gets assessed in her nearest Emergency Department as a priority to consider whether she should undergo a CT scan of her head to exclude a basal skull fracture.
