Are Sore Throat, Congestion And Runny Nose Cause For Concern?

Hi there, I'm a 26 year old female. 5'6", 155 lbs and have been suffering from a sore throat for the past day and a half, runny nose, congestion, and my temperature (usually a healthy 98.6) is in the 95-96 Fahrenheit range. 1) Should I be concerned? 2) Should I go into work?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms of sore throat, runny nose congestion and low temperature are all due to cold..

You need not to worry as it will resolve soon once the virus will complete its cycle in your body..

As far as going to work is concerned as viral infection is contagious and you can communicate it to other individuals by sneezing and sharing glasses, foods etc, therefore if possible take rest at home and do not go to work..

As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
1. Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
2. Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..
3. Do steam inhalations..
4. Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
5. Sip on warm water throughout the day..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
