Blacked Out And Had A Head Injury. Ear Pain, Unconscious. Chest Xray, Ct Scan, Blood And Urine Tests Done. Is This Concussion?
I blacked out and hit my head on the side of the bathtub Monday morning. I was feeling fine while standing in the bathroom. The next thing I knew was that the back of my head was hurting and my wife was calling my name. I regained consciousness to find that I was lying on the floor. I had no idea how I got there. I went to the ER and they checked my heart, did chest x-rays and a CT scan, as well as took blood and urine. They told me that things don't always show up on a CT scan until a couple of days later. I still have pressure in my left ear as if it is filled with cotton or something. They looked in it at the time and saw no fluid or bleeding. Does this mean that I suffered a concussion? Do I need to be concerned about damage to my ear that may be permanent?
Hello, Sudden unconsciousness is less common with ear problems and are more common with problems in brain blood supply. You had CT scan (i assume head) and if its normal. You can get done a Pure Tone Audiometry (hearing test ) and impedance audiometry, if required a MRI Brain can be done depending on tests finding. Consult an ENT specialist.
