My father has been sick for a while now. About a month, it started with fever and weakness, then his legs were swollen. After that he bacame too weak to walk anywhere and was bedridden for a while. He was in a coma from morning until this evening and now he cant recognize my mother and is peeing blood. Please what can I do? Tests have been carried out and his internal organs are fine and he has no diseases or stis. He is on blood pressure medication and has low blood volume. Any clues?

Dear customer,

The blood in urine may be caused by various causes like

1) Kidney stones

2)Infections of the urinary tract (UTIs) or genitals

3) Blockage of the urinary tract, usually the urethra: by a stone, a tumor, a narrowing of the opening (stricture), or a compression from surrounding structures.

4) Cancer of the kidney, bladder, or prostate

5) Kidney disease

6) Blood-clotting disorders

7) Injury to the upper or lower urinary tract, as in a car accident or a bad fall (especially falls onto your back)
8) Medications: antibiotics (for example, rifampin [Rifadin]), analgesics such as aspirin, anticoagulants (blood thinners such as warfarin, [Coumadin]), phenytoin (Dilantin), quinine

9) Benign (noncancerous) enlargement of the prostate known as benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), a common condition in older men

10) Chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and sickle cell anemia

11) Viral infections

12) Inflammation of the kidney, usually of unknown cause

13) Strenuous exercise, especially running, results from repeated jarring of the bladder. In one study, 24% of runners who competed in an ultra-long-distance marathon had hematuria after the race. The hematuria disappeared within seven days. A 20% incidence has been found in marathon runners.

As per his symptoms , the chances of urinary tract infection should be ruled out first which may cause fever, weakness, blood in urine and occasional leg swelling due to kidney injury associated with uti.

You should have the urine r/e, c/s, blood counts, blood c/s, sonography of KUB region, done after consulting a doctor/urologist.The antibiotics course may be required for 7-10 days duration.

The other causes should also be ruled out.The treatment depends on the underying cause.

Thank you!
