Bruising On Knuckle, Sudden Swelling, Tried Closing Box Lid, Same Symptoms. Treatment?
the other day my wife was working in the yard and all of a sudden the knukle on her middle finger turned purple and swelled up, by this morning (sun) it had just about cleared up and looked to be doing better, about min. ago she was closing a box lid and the pinky just turned purple and swelled up around the knukle. any idea what might be going on she is panicked Thank you
There is a high probability of inflammation occurring in the knuckle area. It could be due to a thorn prick, pollen allergen, or any kind of unnoticed trauma.
The inflammation will subside in a couple of days. She has to apply ice to the affected areas thrice daily for next 2 days.
There is a lesser probability of having a torn tendon of the small muscles of the hands or even a hairline crack in the hand bone.
Observe for 2 days, if the swelling and the purple color does not subside, then an x-ray of the joint will be required.
Wish your wife quick recovery.
