Calf Muscle Injuries, Not Able To Exercise. Solution?

For a couple of years now I have been suffering with calf muscle injuries, they usually happen after exercising for more that a half an hour and only if there is pounding, jogging, playing tennis, soccer, so much so that I had to stop, during the winter i was going to the gym quite often and this Spring I got a dog, the puppy loves to run and I started going out with him to a park near by, but about a week after we started I got the injurie again, it can be on either leg, and is driving me crazy. I love to exercise and can't do it anymore, I saw 3 different Orthopedist so far and they do not know what is the cause.

Hi! Thank you for your question. It may be possible that, because of your prolonged exertions - moderate to intense activities lasting more than 1.5 hours - your calf muscles may be accumulating lactic acid. The presence of too much lactic acid in any muscle will cause cramps and pain. I would suggest that you drink lots of fluids with electrolytes, or eat a banana before exercise which will provide you with a supply of potassium ions and enough water. And of course, never forget to stretch before and after your exercises to help allow your muscles to return to their normal conformation and help improve circulation which will remove the lactic acid that may have accumulated. Thank you and take care!
