Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi Thanks for asking Based on your query my opinion is 1. HSV 1 can't be confused with HSV 2 provided immunochemistry had been employed to diagnose the lesions. 2. HSV/ herpes simplex virus is diagnosed by cytology with characteristic features of multinucleated cells and cowdry inclusion. 3. However these findings are common to HSV1 and HSV2. 4. If you are in doubt of having contracted HSV1 then its advisable to go for a cytological examination with immunochemistry for characterization of virus. 5. Also molecular studies will be necessary as HSV lesions are simulate regenerative changes/ trophoblasts/ squamous cell carcinoma Hope this helps Regards
