Can HSV 1 Be Confused With HSV 2?

can hsv 2 be confused with hsv 1, was told i had hsv 2 8 years ago but never had any problems at all and my boyfriend at the time had hsv 1, it was never sent off to a lab i can only think they took a swab and checked it out under a microscope at the clinic many thanks for your advise

Based on your query my opinion is
1. HSV 1 can't be confused with HSV 2 provided immunochemistry had been employed to diagnose the lesions.
2. HSV/ herpes simplex virus is diagnosed by cytology with characteristic features of multinucleated cells and cowdry inclusion.
3. However these findings are common to HSV1 and HSV2.
4. If you are in doubt of having contracted HSV1 then its advisable to go for a cytological examination with immunochemistry for characterization of virus.
5. Also molecular studies will be necessary as HSV lesions are simulate regenerative changes/ trophoblasts/ squamous cell carcinoma
