Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I take clopidogrel because I have a stent to open a blocked artery that helps me digest my food. I have never had a stroke. I have some side effects from the clopidogrel that are harmful to my chronic asthma condition. I am an intrinsic asthmatic, steroid dependent. Can I safely substitute baby aspirin for my daily dosage of clopidogrel?
Dear Sir/ Madam Thanks for your query. No. You can not. This is so because of two reasons. First of all, aspirin may induce certain type of asthma itself. Second, clopidogrel is better drug in preventing stent thrombosis if we consider it as solo therapy in comparison to aspirin. Mostly we use both these drugs in first year after the stent implantation. Sincerely Sukhvinder
