Can Break In The Contraceptive Pill Cause Pregnancy?
have been changed from Microgynon 30 to Loestrin 20, i was given the new pill during my 7day break and i was told that i could carry on taking my new pill after 7 days as normal ... Will I be protected against pregnancy straight away? On the leaflet it said I should have carried on taking my new pill without a break but doesn't say whether I need a second contraceptive if i did not do this ... any information would be great full
Hi, The instruction is meant for the continuation of the medication while you are on it after each cycle. Since you have started afresh, your doctor may have suggested the standard method. Either way, during the first couple of cycles of the pill, you would need additional protection as ovulation is not effectively inhibited sometimes. You can rely on the oral contraceptive pill alone later on, but please make sure you take the pill regularly at the same time everyday. Hope this helps.
