Can Cold And Cough Create Problem In Having Gastroscopy / Endoscopy ?
hi, my name is jon and i'll be having a gastroscopy / endoscopy procedure in a few days. but i have had a stinker of a cold and chesty cough for the last few days. i'm hoping it will clear by then, if not, will they still go ahead with the procedure? I'm also undergowing a colonoscopy after the gastroscopy.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Cold or cough is not a contra-indication for getting an endoscopy or colonoscopy. Upper endoscopy involves inserting an endoscope via throat into the stomach under local anaesthesia. However, if sore throat is also present in association with cold, soreness of throat can increase. Thus, it is better to get the cold and cough treated before undergoing the procedure. Colonoscopy can also be done despite cold and cough.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
