Hello, and I hope I can answer your question.

Many people are positive for toxoplasmosis. It can only cause harm to a pregnancy if you catch the disease while you are pregnant- not if you already have it and it's picked up on a blood test then. You also have to have active disease, meaning you have to have a substance in your blood called IgM which is only present in the first 6 weeks of the disease. Very few laboratories have the test for IgM; in the US there are only 3 labs that do the test, so unless your blood was sent to a specialized center, it is most likely that you do not need treatment at all and taking the antibiotics is only a precaution.

Thyroid disease is also common in pregnancy and as long as you take your medicine at the recommended dose and have your levels checked regularly, the baby should be unaffected by your thyroid disease.

I hope this reassures you and best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy.

Sincerely, Dr. Brown
