Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern
Can you tell me how was the tummy tuck done ?
If it was done laparoscopically, then it cannot be counted again as a
laparotomy.
Even if an open approach was taken, it does not count as a second C section.
What you wish to attempt is called Vaginal Birth After C section or VBAC for short.
The chances of success depend on the integrity of the previous scar, but that is the scar on the
UTERUS, not just the opening of the abdominal cavity.
If you had a repeat C section, or a surgery on the uterus , such as a D and C, or a
fibroid removal etc, then that would increase your chances of the scar opening up while trying for a
vaginal delivery the next time.
As it stands, a tummy tuck does not qualify.
So, you are having just one C section right now.
You can definitely attempt a vaginal birth, as long as the gap between the two deliveries is 18 months or more.
If the intervening period is less than this, again the chances of scar rupture increase.
Also, if the indication this time is again an absolute one, such as breech, or twins, or
placenta previa, then you would not be given a trial of labour.
A scan done in the third trimester can measure the thickness of the previous scar and determine chances of success with vaginal birth.
All the best
Take care.
