your fears are justified, but don't worry the furst visit to a dentist is usually a greeting one wherein he will examine your mouth of cavities, hygiene and take necessary xrays etc. and advise you of the treatment options. the first visit will allay you of any fears you might be having of dental treatment. ask your dentist to show you some videos or informative material on various procedures.
and don't worry its routine , nothing unusual and usually painless.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM!
A regular dental visit is a must for all of us, generally at a gap of 6 months. Now that you have your dental insurance, it'll be best not to delay your oral checkup. In case of superficial decay or caries reaching till dentin, you can get away with simple restorations. If at all the decays are deeper than that and the inner most layer, i.e. the pulp is exposed to it then the treatment of choice is a root canal therapy. A tooth is pulled out in the worst case scenario when its grossly deacayed and a root canal treatment is also not possible. So you don't have much to worry but make sure you do visit a dentist as soon as possible.
Hope this helps you grow over your apprehensions :)
Take care!
Warm regards,
Dr. Akanksha Sharma

Dentist Dr. Neha Gupta's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for sharing your concern with us.
Cavities occurs when bacteria in your mouth make acids that eat away at a tooth. If not treated, tooth decay can cause pain, infection, and tooth loss.
Treatment for tooth decay depends on how bad it is. You may be able to reverse slight tooth decay by using fluoride. To fix cavities caused by mild tooth decay, your dentist will fill the cavities with another substance (fillings). For more severe tooth decay, you may need a crown or root canal. In extreme cases, your dentist may have to remove the tooth.
You can contact me directly through my profile.
Regards.

hi and welcome to HCM,
You really dont have to get your teeth pulled at any case . there is treatment for every dental problem.
As you have mentioned you have got cavities , i would suggest you to visit a dentist and get a x ray examination done for your teeth .
X ray will show the dept of the cavities and the involvement of the dental nerve or presence of pulpitis.
Accordingly treatment can be carried out , if the cavities are far off from dental pulp with out any sensitivity or pain then the decayed tooth structure is excavated and the teeth are filled with permanent restorative material.
If the x ray shows Pulpitis then the teeth needs to be treated by root canal treatment follwed by a course of antibiotics.
i hope this helps,
take care.

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
According to the history pain is not continuous but you had 2 to 3 episodes of pain you said.
sometimes when the caries reaches till dentin, also, you will feel pain which is actually sensitivity but mistaken as pain because of its severity.
According to the history , the teeth can be saved ,unless the whole of tooth structure is lost and cannot be treated .
I would suggest you to see your dentist and discuss the treatment plan after a thorough clinical examination or x-ray of the teeth involved .
Hope this information helps you.

dear friend,
thanx for sharing your concern,

you are well aware , that you have decayed teeth in your mouth, then you must be knowing this too.

dental caries involves numerous bacterias. it is infectious too , causing decay of adjacent teeth.
if one tooth is carious, not treated be sure it will damage two more nearby.

also remember dental caries and improper oral hygiene leads to severe heart diseases like SABE ( sub acute bacterial endocardities) rheumatic fever etc . causing heart valve infection too.

therefore it is mandatory to have good oral hygiene for general well being. so please don't ignore this . if you visit a dentist you will be asked to do so.
1. clinical examination (oral check up)
2. if required scaling (remove calculus and stains)
3. superficial cavities will be restored with suitable filling
4. deep cavities will be treated by RCT after taking a supporting xray
5. if required missing tooth can be replaced by prosthetic crown and bridge.

all these will be done in subsequent visit.

its my advice to you that, visit a dentist and get started with your treatment , maintain good oral hygiene .
hope it helps,
thanx.
