Child Diagnosed With Galactosemia. Started Soy Milk. Now Has G6PD. What Milk Should I Give?
My son was first diagnosed in new born screening to have a galactosemia that s why they make me switch my formula to soy milk...then they make another test now they found out that he has g6pd...then I red that soy milk is bad for g6pd case...don t know how it affects my son...now I don t know what milk should I give to him...please help..thanks...God bless..
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
You continue soy milk for your child as advised previously.
For G6PD deficiency, there is no need to change the formula as formula wont effect the child.
In G6PD deficiency, children are prone for hemolysis due to exposure to some drugs like sulfonamides, antimalarials and some antibiotics.
So you should be careful in giving medications, and inform the doctor about G6PD status before the prescription of medication.
And take a list of avoidable drugs, produts, and chemicals.
Consult your Pediatrician for feeding advise and education related to drug use.
Hope I have answered your query.
