Child's Hair And Urine Smells Like Peppermint, Has Weight Gain, Thyroid Normal. Cause Of These Issues?

My 4 year old daughter s hair and urine smell like peppermint. I ve been concerned about her weight and even had her doctor check her thyroid , which at the time was normal. What could be causing this smell and even the weight problem with my daughter. She doesn t eat that much and is still putting weight on. Do you know what could be causing these issues?

If the above mentioned symptoms are genunine, then i would doubt for metabolism disorders. she ll require an expert pediatrician to examine the child, may require a battery of tests before coming to any conclusions.

Pediatrician Dr. Rajiv K Khandelwal's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

If your daughter is gaining weight and her thyroid is normal then you need to sit down with your doctor and do an audit of her meals. Once you write down what she has during a 24-48 hour period, the doctor shall be able to guide you what needs to be reduced or modified in the diet so that your daughter does not gain weight more than recommended for her age group.

As regards the peppermint smell of your daugher's hair and urine, it shall be advisable to get an examination of urine routine and for reducing substances and discuss with your doctor.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter all the best.

Regards,

RKK
