Continuous Vaginal Bleeding, Might Be A Uterine Polyp. DNC Scheduled. Simple Procedure?
Hi, I am 46 years old, married with two children ages 15 and 5. Been bleeding for over two months and had a check-up this morning. The doc said she felt there is a polyp and I needed to undergo transvaginal ultrasound and later on, DNC. Is this a simple procedure? How long will a patient stay in the hospital? Thanks a lot.
Hello,
A D&C, or dilation and curettage, is a surgical operation in which a doctor dilates your cervix and empties your uterus by gently scraping the uterine lining.
It is simple and swift procedure lasting only 15 to 20 minutes.
You may stay there for couple of hours and then allowed to go.
Pain killers are advised for pain.
You may have cramping and vaginal bleeding for couple of days.
You can resume your office in couple of days.
Consult your doctor if there is heavy bleeding or sign of infection.
Avoid tampoons and sex for 7 to 10 days.
Resumption of periods occur in 6 to 8 weeks.
Thanks
