Diagnosed With Collapse Of Lung With Large Pleural Effusion, Minimal Contralateral Mediastinal Shift. Meaning?
My dad who is 73 years old diagnosed to have consolidation / collapse of the right lung with large pleural effusion . Only part of the apical lobe is left. There is only a minimal contralateral mediastinal shift. There is a small patcy consolidation in the left middle zone. The fundus are consistent with active PTB with pleural effusion.

This means he has advanced ongoing/active lung tuberculosis.This can be cured but long term treatment and good meticulous care is needed.
Since one lung is collapsed mid-line chest structures like heart that is middle mediastinum is shifted to one side.This is not a major concern.
