Diarrhea For Months. Suggested Colonoscopy. Can Yeast In Stool Cause Diarrhea?
can positive yeast in stool test be causing chronic diarrhea? The diarrhea has been going on since July. I just saw a GI doctor and he is pushing for a colonoscopy even though I'm reluctant. I feel the yeast could be causing the diarrhea and there are other ways to treat it to see if diarrhea will improve and/or stop by natural means.
Hi, Welcome to HCM Presence of yeast is such a common phenomena that a doctor can encounter quite often with their patients with diarrheal disease on examination of motion in a laboratory. Yeast in gut can present as a normal flora. There can be an exaggerated growth following an antibiotic or an anti-protozoal drugs. It is quite unlikely that it could be a cause for your diarrhea. Presence of protozoa, bacteria have to be looked for as an etiology for diarrhea. There may be other reasons also for diarrhea other than this. Sometimes presence of yeast will help in having a check over the spread of bacteria. A culture and sensitivity of stools may sometimes will help to fix the cause. Get well soon. Dr S.Murugan
