Difficulty In Walking, Pain, Puffiness On Top Of Foot After A Fall. Broken Foot? Treatment?
7 days ago I fell in a shallow hole at the beach. I must've slammed the top of my left foot when I fell. Immediately I couldn't walk properly on that foot. Now I'm only able to walk on the outside of that foot. There's a bit of puffiness on the top of my foot. If I stand flat on that foot, not only does it hurt a lot, it feels like I'm standing on something. Tonight I'm experiencing burning and some shooting pains. Should I keep weight off this foot? I would go for an xray but don't have insurance and am unemployed. Not a great set of circumstances. But since it's been a week of pain and no bearing weight, I'm wondering if I could've broken my foot. It would be between the 3rd and 4th metatarsals. It feels like I dropped something heavy on top of my foot. Thank you. I'm sorry,

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi,
Seeing a podiatrist or foot specialist should be your first step. Treatment for your top-of-foot pain will be based on the cause and the severity of the pain. Use the RICE method to relieve foot pain. Rest, Ice (applied for twenty minutes at a time), Compression, and Elevation. These are the four basic elements used to treat any kind of injury to the foot.
Other treatment options may include: Over-the-counter medication (Tylenol, aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen) to reduce pain and discomfort. Stretching the foot muscles Switching foot wear Strappings and/or paddings Limiting activities
I do hope that you have found something helpful and Informative.
