hello doc. i was taking 20mg of celxa for aniety and deppression. over the last year i was drinking a 150ml bottle of red wine a night. i expressed to my regular doctor that i was concerned with the alcohol cosumption but couldnt stop. he upped my celexa to 40mg and told me to only a couple drinks of wine a week!!! does celex help curb alcohol craving???
You have been on Citalopram 20 mg for anxiety and depression. The drug belongs to SSRI group of antidepressants. The drug helps in reducing anxiety and depression but I am afraid it is not helpful in reducing the craving of alcohol. Instead alcohol should be avoided with Citalopram. For reduction of craving you can discuss with your psychiatrist and can take drugs like Acamprosate, Pregabalin, Baclofen. These drugs helps to reduce craving and help to maintain abstinence of alcohol. You can consult your psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
