Does Benign Conditions Require CAT Scan Every Year And Can These Develop Into Something More Serious?

I am a cancer survivor of ductal cell ca & chondrosarcoma. Every year I am made to undergo a contrast CAT Scan of my liver. I am constantly told I have 2 cyst, one which remains the same and one that grows a little each year. I also have a definitive diagnosis of Focal Nodular Hyperplasia. My question is if all of these entities are benign why do I have to repeat this exam every year and can these things develop into something more serious?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

I suppose your doctors are more vigilant because of your cancer history. If you have one cyst that grows a little every year, it must be followed up closely. For liver lesions, an ultrasound scan is more convenient that CT scan. On suspicion a CT scan can always be done.
