Does Blood Sugar Level 500 Require Immediate Medical Attention?
My daughter is 20 years old and was diagnoised with diabetes last fall. She is on insulin,, but she is not taking it like she is supposed to. Her blood sugar level was 500 this morning. How can I get her to understand that she needs to monitor her blood sugar and get it under control. Should she have went to the emergency room when it gets that high?
Hi, glucose level of 500 is really high, I would suggest you to consult her doctor regarding this, as this level can lead to some acute emergency condition and in long term will surely impact the health. You need to convince her and if possible have a counselling session with some professional to make her understand the impact of insulin therapy for her condition. Since your daughter is 20 years, I think this must be type I diabetes and for this insulin therapy is must, and she is old enough to understand and take decision regarding her health.
