i have always suffered from some anxiety but my last child just went off to college and suddenly i have developed vertigo from a viral infection and having severe panic attacks. i have been on 1 pill .50 for sleep disorders for several years of xanax which they have told me to take for my anxiety now. i am taking .25 two to three times daily (including nightime in dosage) I feel like this is bad as a mother to take. Are alot of mothers on this drug? Does it make me an addict?
These drugs like xanax, klonopin are known to cause dependence.
Better drugs for anxiety are drugs like escitalopram or fluoxetine. These drugs take 7-10 days to show their effect. After that xanax can be withdrawn.
For better sleep, practice sleep hygiene habits like: Avoid daytime naps. Avoid heavy fatty meal in dinner. Associate your bed with sleep only and donot keep lying on bed idly while reading or watching tv. Drink a glass of warm milk at bedtime. Practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation.
Hope this helps.
