Expecting 3rd Baby, Had Gestational Diabetes In 1st, Polyhydramnios In 2nd. Any Risks ?
Hello, I have just found out I am expecting my third baby, but I am very concerned as I had gestational diabetes in my first pregnancy and polyhydramnios with my second baby. I managed to control the diabetes with diet alone and luckily my second baby had no lasting effects from the polyhydramnios. I am wondering if I am at an increased risk of developing both these symptoms again with this pregnancy?
Gestational diabetes do have a recurrence risk in subsequent pregnancies. So you need to be vigilant in this pregnancy regarding your blood sugar levels and weight gain.
You need to take your glucose screening test in the first trimester itself.
Repeat the test in every trimester as sometimes the sugars get deranged later in pregnancy.
Keep a record of your weight gain. Incase you gain excess weight it can be due to diabetes or polyhydramnios.
You should keep a balanced diet and avoid excess fatty and high carbohydrate foods.
Take care.
