Frequent Nose Bleeds, Excessive Blood Loss. Cauterization And Packing Done Many Times. Permanent Solution?
I have a friend who has excessive nose bleeding . They have cauterized and packed 3 times in 9 days. What is the next step. The doctors seem to be treating symptoms vs cause. These nose bleeds have happen before but not for so long and losing as much blood . Seems like a problem is getting worse due to something internally and not due to the scab coming off and starting the ball rolling again. Both times the nose was packed and the last time the plugs were still in. Sugeestions?
As per your history your friends nosebleeds are not stopping in spite of cauterization and packing. You should check whether his blood pressure is high.If so he should be started on antihypertensives. He should also get a blood routine and peripheral smear done to check for any abnormalities in his blood. If all these are normal a CT of the para-nasal sinuses should be done to rule out any pathology there. For stopping the bleeding from the nose he can take T Trenexa (Tranexamic acid) 500mg thrice daily for a week along with Injection Vitamin K 1 ampoule intramuscular daily for 3 days. This usually stops the bleeding however severe.
