Gasping For Air During Sleeping After Crying, Blocked Nasal Passages, Normal ?

My 3 month old baby seems to be gasping in his sleep after a crying spell. He will cry very hard (for instance today because he had to take his medicine ) then he will fall asleep when we get him calmed, but he seems to spend the next hour or two of sleep gasping in between breathes. Seems almost like he is still really worked up? Is this normal behaviour?
