Got Pricked By Tip Of Needle After Giving Injection To A Patient. Any Chance Of HIV?
hi,i work as a GP at the airport quarantine, i got pricked ( actually scratched) by the tip of the needle after giving an african patient an IM injection & i don't know his status ( regarding HBV,HCV,HIV)
my major concern is hiv since i m already immunized against hbv
for more elaboration, the needle didn't have any visible blood on it , & the site of injury was superficial almost limited to the skin about 2-3 mm in length

Regarding HBV Infection, It has a high rate of transmission during occupational exposure. You're vaccinated and regularly repeat the booster doses.
HIV has a 0.3 % for every 100 needlestick injury. Since you don't know the status of the source, Post Exposure Prophylaxis should be given within 72 Hours.
