Had A Copper IUD And Bleeding Continuously. Should I Be Concerned?

had a copper IUD fitted 6 years ago and is clearly passed it s use-by date. (My partner has had a vasectomy since thenso I’m not too concerned about pregnancy). However Im ina mid cycle and experiencing 5 days of continuous bleeding and stomach period like cramps. I went to the doctor yesterday who told me to wait till I stop bleeding and then to come back and she will remove the IUD for me. It’s now been 5 days since I started bleeding.. should I be concerned?

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response

hello,

5 days continuous bleeding in the mid cycle may be due to IUD itself or hormonal imbalance. Pelvic pathology like fibroid, polyp may cause the same picture. One USG scan will be worthwhile before removing the IUD. You can take Tranexamic Acid medicine to arrest bleeding temporarily. Maintain genital hygiene.
