You might consider having a check up for diabetic neuropathy or even gout. Checking your blood sugars is good if you can do that. Having a fasting glucose test at your lab could tell you alot about if you have concerns about diabetes. Sometimes eating protein (meat, fish, etc.) can create uric acid and it can show up in the toe. Is your ankle bruised or swollen? Reducing your salt intake can reduce inflammation in tissues which can cause pain also.
