Have Fever And Sore Throat. Was Diagnosed With Mono Earlier. Can It Be Mono Again?

Hello, my name is Shamera. I was diagnosed with mono in August 2012. I've recovered since. For the past three days, I've been experiencing similar symptoms but this time with more cramping. I had a fever for 2 days straight that reached only 101.2 and a seriously sore throat for four days now, that seems to get worst each morning. I thought that it could be strep, but I don't see any with patches on the back of my throat, it's just really red, irritated and swollen. Is it possible that I could be having a reoccurring episode of mono?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If you had previous confirmed infection with mono then it is highly unlikely that this is a repeat infection because you should be immune against the virus.

Most infections of the throat are caused by viral infections though some persons may have bacterial infections.
You can consider using analgesic and antiseptic sprays or gargles to see if they relieve the discomfort. These can be used with an oral analgesic such as paracetamol or ibuprofen which would also help the fever.

If the symptoms worsen or do not resolve in 2 to 3 days then you should consider visiting your doctor for an evaluation.

I hope this helps
