Have High Calcium Level And Low Bone Density. Dizziness Due To Sinus Problems. Possible To Have Surgery Without Being Put To Sleep?

I have been taking tests for Parathroid adenoma. My calcium level is high and my bone density is low. Is surgery the only way to correct this problem?

I also have sinus problems that cause me to get dizzle when i lay on my back or laying on my left side. I am concerned if i have to have surgery.

Is it possible not to be put to sleep?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

In certain cases of mild symptoms or no symptoms, hormone replacement therapy and medications can be tried. These treatments will not reduce the extra amount of parathyroid hormone in the blood but they prevent the loss of calcium from the bone.

Surgery is the usual treatment for parathyroid adenoma because surgery cures the problem more than 95% of the times and improves the quality of life.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
