Have Severe Anxiety And Major Depression. Using Norco Helps. Can I Take The Medicament In Regular Basis?

Ive recently discovered that Norco (the white pill/ 325 mgs), have helped me with my severe anxiety and major depression. It has given me the "medium wellness" that I have been searching for , for so long. This by far has worked a wonder for me. I actually take half of one pill in the morning. Should I take on a regular basis vs "as needed"? Also, what is your opinion on Valium used for the same diagnosis?

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history.

The drug you have mentioned contains hydrocodone, which is opioid analgesics. It may sometimes reduce your anxiety and may boost your confidence but it has very high abuse liabilities so you should not take this drug without consulting your doctor.

Diazepam is drug used for sleep which also has high abuse potential.

You should consult psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and management.
Doctor may advise you to take anti depressant drugs like desvenlafaxin or sertraline.

You may get benefit by doing stress management and relaxation therapy like breathing exercise.

I hope it will help you.

Thanks.

Psychiatrist Dr. Anjana Rao Kavoor's  Response
Hi,
Acetaminophen/hydrocodone (325/10mg) is norco that has helped you allay anxiety which are NOT prescribed for this reason. They have properties of dependence and tolerance that will make it very hard to stop them owing to an intense withdrawal that you will experience.
Diazepam (valium) belongs to benzodiazepine group of drugs that also have similar properties and hence are not prescribed by psychiatrists for long.
The problems you are dealing with needs to be evaluated by a psychiatrist and treated accordingly. There are both pharmacological and psychological (therapy and counselling) treatment options for your condition so please visit a psychiatrist.
Hope this helps
