Head Injury. Received Five Staples. Breathing Rapidly, Headache. Cause Of Concern?
My 13 yr son over flipped off a trampoline and hit head on fence and ground 2 days ago. Went to ER and he received 5 staples, no X-rays. They assured me he was fine and home we went. Now tonight he was playing with friend in living room and I noticed he s breathing rapidly. He says he s ok but has headache . Should I be concerned?
Hello. Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
It's always a bit nerve-wracking when one of our children sustains a significant injury and we parents are left wondering what symptoms could herald a catastrophe and what behaviors are normal. This is particularly true of head injuries, which frequently cause headaches, sleepiness, nausea and even memory problems for several days.
Although we rarely see serious complications following ground-level falls, a fall from a trampoline is another matter. The bottom line here is this: unusual behavior, confusion, disorientation, extreme irritability, severe headache, vomiting, neck pain, lethargy or any other worrisome symptom following a fall from a height is worth at least a call to your physician. He/she may want to evaluate your son, or you might be referred back to the ER.
I hope that helps, and I hope your son does well!
